My incredible friend Brian passed away from a rare cancer on April 6th, 2015.

I was able to fly home to the West Coast for his "Celebration of Life", which he helped plan before he passed. He was a San Francisco Giants fanatic so it was held at AT&T Park. And as requested by Brian, no one wore black unless they were wearing Giants colors.

Brian was the national spokesman for the Cycle for Survival campaign; a wonderful organization that raises money for rare cancer research, through cycling events held across the country. 100% Of all donations go directly towards lifesaving research.

To quote Brian, "I fight not for fear of dying, but joy of living. Smile, the world is just awesome."

Brian and I at the Cycle for Survival event, held at Bryant Park Equinox in New York City, on March 8th, 2015.

I've been in New York for about eight months now, and am surprised by how much I love the city. Scott arrived a few months after I did, and together we've been exploring it as much as possible.

Scott and I found that Central Park is similar to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco (minus the snow and seasonal beauty). And from what I understand by skimming the Golden Gate Park Wikipedia page, that was the plan. (Semi-interesting side note; it also says that the plans for GGP were almost replaced with ones for a racetrack, an idea favored by Leland Stanford.)

We're currently living in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The view from our bedroom resembles Rear Window, and I've definitely received strange looks from neighbors when I stand on the rickety fire escape, photographing the funny birds that live in the trees between our homes.
